Clarke rubber stamps support to Lamichhane

Sep 7, 2016- Australia’s former captain Michael Clarke confirmed on Tuesday that he will be supporting Nepal’s leg-spinning sensation Sandeep Lamichhane for the new season of Sydney Grade Cricket.

Lamichhane, who impressed Clarke during May 27-29 Hong Kong Twenty20 Blitz where both played for the Kowloon Cantons Cricket Club, was already invited by Clarke for the club and district cricket championship of the state. Clarke’s home club, Western Suburbs District Cricket Club, issued a press release on Tuesday saying: “Former Australian captain, Michael Clarke, in association with Hublot has sponsored 16-year old Nepalese leg spinner Sandeep Lamichhane to attend the Michael Clarke Cricket Academy and to play the 2016-17 season with Michael’s Premier Grade Cricket Club, Western Suburbs.”

While Lamichhane will undergo training at Clarke’s academy, he will also be representing Western Suburbs in the Sydney Grade Cricket. Grade cricket is the senior inter-club or district competitions in each of the Australian states and territories. It is the gateway for cricketers to make their way for State teams and ultimately the national side.

The Sydney Grade Cricket consists of 20 clubs. Lamichhane will play his first game for Western Suburbs against Mosman at the Allan Border Oval on September 24. Lamichhane will leave for Australia on September 18. He will be provided with living allowance, while Western Suburbs has prepared for his stay with the Nepalese community in Sydney.
